Jitterbit. It’s Not as Tricky as it Sounds.

“What is Jitterbit?”

“Is Jitterbit hard to implement?”

These are two very common questions that Hummingbird Innovations’ co-founder Trung Nguyen hears when it comes to Product Lifecycle Management 360 (PLM 360) application integration.

It’s not as complicated as you might think.  Jitterbit is a SaaS (Software As A Service) Application that allows companies to move, duplicate, replicate and update metadata to other Enterprise applications through a Graphic User Interface (GUI) with minimal coding requirements.  Jitterbit is the middle-ware tool that Autodesk utilizes to connect Fusion Lifecycle with other tools and applications (Salesforce, NetSuite).  Jitterbit can be implemented On-Premise or On-Cloud.

Jitterbit is a simple tool so don’t be intimidated.  It is not especially hard; however, nor is it easy.  It is best to prepare by taking basic training classes in PLM Integration.  Once you’ve complete one or couple of Jitterbit classes, you should have a good understanding of how to begin creating basic operations.

Here are some of Trung’s best practices to prepare for a Jitterbit Implementation.

#1 Implementation Administrator Basic Requirements:

The PLM Administrator should understand the design/setup of the workspaces.

The PLM Administrator should also have a working knowledge of Web Services, API, and XML.

#2 Best Practices for a Successful Transformation Roadmap:

Define the integration process flow from Point A to Point B.

Identify the data set and location of data in the Source.

Determine the File Format and Target Location.

Define Flow Path: Bilateral or Unilateral.

Execute extraction type: Complete Data Transfer, Interval Update, and Incremental Update.

Many of the Connectors for Autodesk PLM 360 have been already established which makes the setup of the endpoints fairly simple.

The transformation process has been simplified through the GUI.  This allows the user to drag and drop the data from the Source to the Target with ease.

Finally, through the use of simple scripting, users can link multiple operations together to form complex end-to-end operations.

Jitterbit is a very powerful tool that enables performance of many complex integrations from one application to another.  This will be apparent once you have completed a couple of successful Jitterbit operations and grasp the basic concept.

Jitterbit is always evolving.  Trung has built many operations throughout his extensive career with Autodesk and now with Hummingbird Innovations. Yet, he continues to learn new tricks every day.
